Foreign Experts Enjoy the Making of Rice Noodles

and the Charm of Guangxi Food Culture


11月16日,由广西科技厅(外国专家局)主办、南宁市美洲翻译服务有限责任公司承办的“中华文化驿站之广西米粉文化体验”活动在南宁举行。来自美国、澳大利亚、日本、缅甸、泰国等多个国家共25位在桂工作外国专家齐聚一堂,解读广西米粉文化,体验米粉古法制作,感受米粉文化的魅力。

On November 16, 25 foreign experts working in Guangxi from countries such as the United States, Australia, Japan, Myanmar, Thailand, etc. came together to experience Guangxi rice noodles culture, learn about how to make the rice noodles with ancient technique and feel its charm in the activity of “Chinese Culture Post—Guangxi Rice Noodles Cultural Experience” held in Nanning. The event was sponsored by Science and Technology Department (Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs) of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and organized by Nanning America Translation Co., Ltd.

活动中,外国专家们参观了米粉博物馆文化展厅并体验了古法米粉制作的全过程,参观首届世界米粉大会的展览更是帮助外国专家深刻地解读别具一格的广西米粉文化及广西人特殊的米粉情节。

In the event, foreign experts visited cultural exhibition hall of Rice Noodles Museum and experienced the whole process of making rice noodles with ancient technique. Besides, after paying a visit to the First World Rice Noodle Expo, they had a better understanding of distinctive Guangxi rice noodles culture and Guangxi people’s special complex for rice noodles.

在参观米粉博物馆文化展厅环节,外国专家在讲解老师的带领下参观了米粉工艺制作雕塑群、米粉的历史起源展区、古代米粉生产工艺展区、米粉品种陈列展区等多个区域,对广西米粉文化的起源、演变、发展及形成有了一定的了解。米粉博物馆以文物、仿古制器、图文陈列等展示着米粉的历史文化,同时展厅收集并展示了广西各地近50种特色米粉模具,橱窗上以假乱真的米粉模具让外国专家们垂涎欲滴。

When looking around cultural exhibition hall of Rice Noodles Museum, foreign experts visited various regions including exhibition areas of sculptures of making rice noodles, rice noodles’ history and origin, manufacturing technique of rice noodles in ancient times and display of different categories of rice noodles respectively under the guidance of the docent there. In doing so, they knew more about the origin, evolution, development and emergence of Guangxi rice noodles culture. With diverse forms such as cultural relics, antique utensils and display of paintings and characters to show history and culture of rice noodles, the exhibition hall also collected nearly 50 food replicas of rice noodles across Guangxi, which are mouthwatering due to looks that can’t be distinguished from the real thing.

活动现场,外国专家还兴致勃勃动起手来制作米粉。外国专家在米粉制作大师的指导下,亲身体验了一把从大米到米浆再到米粉的古代制粉过程。外国专家们极其认真投入,通过对古法制粉工序的了解、观摩和实践,从中体会到古老米粉技艺的乐趣。不仅如此,外国专家还品尝了自己亲手制作成功的美味米粉,成就感十足。

At the event site, foreign experts made rice noodles with their own hands cheerfully. Instructed by the rice noodles master, they experienced the ancient manufacturing process of rice noodles from rice, rice milk to rice noodles. With the serious attitude, foreign experts were committed to their work and enjoyed the fun of making rice noodles through the understanding, observation and practice of antique technique. Alongside that, they also tasted the delicious rice noodles made by themselves and gained a great sense of achievement.

活动当天正值首届世界米粉大会的开幕日,外国专家在米粉博物馆参观和体验米粉制作后集体前往南宁国际会展中心参加世界米粉大会。2019世界米粉大会是东盟博览会重要的专业展之一,以“米粉,向世界出发”为主题,旨在对接世界米粉产业版图,集结中国米粉产业文化要素,弘扬广西米粉形象。通过此次活动,外国专家对广西米粉文化有了深层次的了解和体会。他们纷纷表示,这次活动提供了一个了解广西米粉和广西文化的机会,可以帮助他们更好更快地融入广西生活,安心学习和工作。

As the event day fell on the opening day of the First World Rice Noodle Expo, foreign experts went to Nanning International Exhibition Center to participate in the World Rice Noodle Expo after visiting Rice Noodles Museum and learning about how to make rice noodles. As one of the most important professional exhibitions of China-ASEAN Expo, the World Rice Noodle Expo 2019 with “Bring Rice Noodles to the World” as its theme aims to demonstrate the distribution of world rice noodles industry, bring cultural elements of Chinese rice noodles industry together, and promote the image of Guangxi rice noodles. By attending this event, the foreign experts gained an insight into Guangxi rice noodles. They said that this event offered them a good opportunity to comprehend Guangxi rice noodles and Guangxi culture, enabling them to integrate in Guangxi better and more quickly and settle down to study and work.

据了解,广西科技厅(外国专家局)从2017年开始在全区组织实施“在桂国(境)外专家安心计划”,帮助在桂工作国(境)外专家更直接地了解和融入广西,以此营造良好的工作生活环境,让专家更好地参与广西经济社会发展建设。中华文化驿站作为2019年“在桂国(境)外专家安心计划”子项目之一,旨在让外国专家感受中国传统文化的深厚底蕴,进一步了解中国文化和广西的风土人情,同时加强外国专家与管理部门之间的联系,是服务外国专家的重要平台。

It is reported that Science and Technology Department (Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs) of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has organized the implementation of the ‘Reassurance Plan for Foreigners Working in Guangxi’ throughout the region since 2017, helping foreign experts to understand and fit in Guangxi more directly as a way to create a good working and living environment for them to better participate in Guangxi’s economic and social development and construction. Being one of the sub-projects of the ‘Reassurance Plan’, Chinese Culture Post is intended to make foreign experts feel the profound foundation of traditional Chinese culture, have a further understanding of Chinese culture and Guangxi’s local customs and practices. Meanwhile, as an important platform of serving foreign experts, Chinese Culture Post tightened the bonds between foreign experts and the administration department.
